BULSTRAD ARENA - top event for the residents of the city of Ruse
On 23 July 2015, plenty of fun activities, games, music and more than 40 performers on 3 stages marked the opening of BULSTRAD ARENA, one of the most modern, functional and business oriented venues for sports and social events on international, national and regional level in Bulgaria. The Mayor of Ruse, Plamen Stoilov, delivered from the stage of the arena the exciting news that Ruse was selected as the European Capital of Sport in 2016 and read aloud the official letter from Gian Francesco Lupattelli, President of the European Capitals of Sport Association.
The opening of BULSTRAD ARENA commenced with the solemn performance of the Bulgarian anthem by Tereza Todorova, which brought the audience to its feet. The metropolitan bishop of the Ruse, Naum, performed a blessing ceremony for the building. “Ruse has finally made its dream come true”, Plamen Bobokov, main investor in the project, announced in an emotional speech. He named and expressed gratitude to more than 20 persons who had stood behind the project during the recent years. “BULSTRAD ARENA is a victory for us, a victory for Ruse, a victory for Bulgaria, a victory of faith, constancy and perseverance. In a way, here we have built a third “bridge on the Danube”, Mr. Bobokov announced as he conferred the honorary emblem of Bulstrad Arena, designed by Nadia Rozeva Green, to the Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borissov, the CEO of Bulstrad Vienna Insurance Group, Rumen Yanchev, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Krasen Kralev, and the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Lilyana Pavlova who acknowledged that “BULSTRAD ARENA is a jewel in the heart of Ruse”. An emblem of the arena was also presented to the Minister of Youth and Sport in Romania, Gabriela Szabo.
Moving and heartfelt speeches were also delivered by the Mayor of Ruse, Plamen Stoilov, the ministers Krasen Kralev and Lilyana Pavlova, and their Romanian colleague, the Minister of Youth and Sport, Gabriela Szabo. The Prime Minister Boyko Borissov expressed confidence that with the new arena Ruse would renew its status of an international music and sports center and he made a commitment to the residents of the city that the four-lane road connecting the city with the Hemus motorway would be completed by 2017. The official ribbon-cutting, which took place during the anthem of Europe, was performed by Mr. Boyko Borissov, Plamen Stoilov, Mayor of Ruse, Plamen Bobokov, main investor, Rumen Yanchev, representative of the company patron of the arena, as well as the managers of BULSTRAD ARENA, Borislav Velkov and Ivan Drandiyski.
After the end of the opening ceremony, the official guests were led on a special tour of the arena, while the audience was entertained by the comic wit of Dimitar Tudzharov –Skumbata, who delighted the guests with numerous prizes, tickets for future events at BULSTRAD ARENA.
For the residents of the Ruse this celebratory event had already begun in the early afternoon. Despite the hot weather at BULSTRAD ARENA, the fun program at the two of the stages featured two DJ parties, basketball lessons, dunk shows and demo games played by various teams of the Dunav Ruse soccer club, a Human Foosball soccer show, performance by the children vocal group “Slantse” and the amusing children stories narrated by the actor Niki Stanoev and performed for the guests. Undoubtedly, the highlight of the opening was the concert of the prima of Bulgarian popular music, Lili Ivanova, who moved to tears all present with a rendition of her greatest hits.
